Additional Information

• The mud bath has a time-limit of 20 minutes once a day for health and safety reasons. 
• The minimum age for the mud baths is 2.5 years of age, whereas for the sulphur spa is 6 months of age.
• The chemical makeup of our muds and waters will tarnish most jewellery, particularly silver.  We recommend removing it and waiting 24 – 48 hours to put it back on.
• Your swimwear and towels will have a sulphur smell to them after your experience and will need to be cleaned thoroughly.  We recommend using old swimwear, or if you have any concerns to hire or buy from Hell’s Gate, subject to availability.
• All complimentary services are subject to availability.

What is the difference between the Twilight Spa™ & general Hell’s Gate Mud Bath & Spas?

The Twilight Spa™ is our winter special offer, which allows our customers to experience unique geothermal mud and waters under the stars – a relaxing and magical escape into nature.  Just like our Hell’s Gate Mud Bath & Spas, this experience is hosted in our communal bathing facility, with a few added extras. 

What are the health benefits of our Hell’s Gate mud and water?

The mineral-enriched geothermal mud contains a variety of minerals and trace elements that offer numerous health benefits. The mud has a detoxifying and purifying action on the skin, absorbing excess oils and fatty secretions from within the pores, leaving you feeling soft, smooth, and rejuvenated. Additionally, the mud has bactericidal properties through its sulphur content, which kills bacteria and assists in the prevention and elimination of acne. The strong affinity of the mud to moisture in the skin also promotes the regeneration of skin cells. By choosing to bathe in our mud spa, you'll be indulging in an ancient healing tradition that has been treasured by the Maori for over 500 years and has been scientifically proven to have numerous health benefits.

What if it is raining?

The mud bath and sulphur spas are outside but have shade covers which makes bathing in the rain no problem!  Hell’s Gate offers the perfect place for rainy day activities in Rotorua.  Warm up in the mud bath and sulphur spas as you watch the reserve come to life with steam.
